Use a file name that identifies you clearly

Recruiters often download many resumes at once. A clear file name makes your document easier to find later.

Use your name and target role. Avoid generic names like resume-final-final.pdf because they do not help the reviewer.

Avoid: resume.pdf

Open the exported PDF before sending

Always open the PDF after export. Check page breaks, margins, spacing, and whether long sections continue cleanly onto the next page.

Verify links and selectable text

Click every link in your PDF. Also try selecting text in the file to confirm that the resume did not export as a blurry screenshot where text cannot be copied.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is PDF better than DOCX?

PDF is best when the employer does not specify a format because it preserves layout. If the job post asks for DOCX, follow that instruction.

Should I include the company name in the file name?

You can if the resume is tailored for one application, but your name and role are usually the most important parts.
